poems
Poetry (from the Greek "ποίησις", poiesis, a "making" or "creating") is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its ostensible meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.....

100% Q: What poems did Walt Whitman write during the civil war?
I know he wrote some. I was just having trouble finding what poems he wrote during that time period. I am trying to write about his themes during the civil war and what impact if any did they have. Thanks!
A:Hmmm. He wrote two about Lincoln's assassination: O Captain, My Captain and When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloomed. That's the end of the Civil War, of course.
Let me see what else I can find. BTW, he worked in hospitals during the Civil War--don't know if that fact helps you any.
Edit: At the beginning of the Civil War, he wrote "Beat,Beat Drums!" which was a rallying cry for the Union forces. He wrote some prose as well during this time--"Great Army of the Sick" was published in a NY newspaper in 1863.
He continued to work on Leaves of Grass during this time. One edition was published just before the war started, and another a couple of years after it ended.

100% Q: What are 2 poems that are easy to compare and contrast?
I have to write a paper and compare/contrast 2 poems. They can't be children's poems. I can use song lyrics, but I want something simple. I have to make 2 pages double spaced. This is for a college class, so they have to be level appropriate.
A:How about comparing and contrasting two famous poems like How Do I Love Thee? from Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth Barrett Browning ( http://www.online-literature.com/elizabeth-browning/3704/ ) and Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe ( http://www.online-literature.com/poe/576/ )
Or, you could compare Emily Dickinson's Because I Could Not Wait for Death ( http://www.online-literature.com/dickinson/443/ ) with Emily Bronte's poem called Death ( http://www.online-literature.com/bronte/1338/ )

100% Q: How do you critique poems about rejection and love gone wrong?
So many of the poems posted here are filled with agnst and pain over being rejected. Most of them are terrible poems, unworthy of critique, but even the ones that are relatively well written are so raw with emotion that I fear any suggestions would be perceived as heaping abuse on someone already dangerously depressed. How do the rest of you deal with this?
A:In my opinion a poem has to have rythm and rhyme to be good. If they are heaped with pain I usually don't comment about it.
