graduation announcements

Graduation is the action of receiving or conferring an academic degree or the associated ceremony. The date of event is often called degree day. The event itself is also called commencement, convocation or invocation. At the University of Cambridge, it is known as general admission. In the United States and Canada, it is also used to refer to the advancement from a primary or secondary school level. Beginning at the secondary school level in the United States, such ceremonies usually include a procession of the faculty and candidates. The candidates will almost always wear academic dress, and increasingly faculty will do the same. At the college and university level, the faculty will usually wear academic dress at the formal ceremonies, as will the trustees and degree candidates. "Graduation" at the college and university level occurs when the presiding officer confers degrees upon candidates, either individually or en masse, even if graduates physically receive their diploma later at a smaller college or departmental ceremony.....

100% Q: graduation announcements?
Do people send out graduation announcements for getting their master's degree, or is that something that is only done when one completes their B.A.? We aren't having a party or anything and we don't expect anyone to come to the actual graduation because it is out of state. Should we even send out announcements?
A:why send out announcements? should only be for the immediate family, i got one for my cousins high school graduation, i live in NY he lives in Nevada-beyond rude

100% Q: How should my parents' names be printed on my graduation announcements?
I am receiving my undergraduate degree this December, and am trying to figure out how my announcements should be worded. My parents are divorced, and technically it's my mother, father, and stepmother that are announcing my graduation. They all have the same last name, though so I don't want it to say "John, Jane, and Jill Smith are proud to announce the graduation of Jamie...." because then it sounds like all three are married. My dad and I were thinking to just write "The parents of..." or "We are proud..." on the announcements. What is the proper way for my all three of my parents' names to be printed on the announcements?
A:I like "The parents of" The other way, I suppose would be "Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Jessica Smith are pleased ..."

100% Q: What is proper etiquette regarding college graduation announcements?
Do I need to get a professional photo taken to send along with the announcement? Is it proper etiquette to even send a photo? How soon before graduation are announcements supposed to be sent? I am the first person in my family to graduate college so this is new to us. Thanks. I graduate in May 2007 with my bachelors degree
A:I think you might be getting some false info. here, so just to add my 2 cents: Announcements are not invitations. When you receive an announcement for a graduation, it is just that, an announcement. I've known several people who were under the false impression they were invited to a graduation, when in fact, it was just an announcement OF the graduation. As I'm sure you know, most colleges only allow 2-4 persons to attend the actual ceremony....you don't need everyone and thier mother thinking they are invited! Anyway, announcements are best sent 1-2 weeks before the event. Any pictures should be sent after the actual graduation. Most colleges have you take a formal portrait with a black cape your senior year, then there is a photo taken at the graduation with cap and gown. Either of these would be fine to send out with a thank you note, or with a personal note to whomever you wish. The main idea is that the photo be of your academic/scholarly life, not you on the beach at spring break. Congrats to you!

100% Q: I need help designing graduation announcements?
I am going to be making graduation announcements for my sister’s graduation from high school. I was wondering where I could find a website that would have ideas, layouts, and designs (or any ideas you may have). She said she wants it to have one fold. I was thinking of making it have a homemade/scrapbook-y look. We don’t want it to look like every other announcement out there. I have lots of experience scrapbooking and a degree in graphic design. I just can’t seem to come up with something.
A:I agree with putting a graduation picture of your sister on the front of the card. The front card embellishment could be of her favorite color(s) or her high school color(s). The inside of the card could be very simple but elegant....such as: Mr. & Mrs. ........................are proud to announce the graduation of their daughter...........from .......High School on DATE. Have fun with it. You can do it. Nancy

100% Q: Should I send out graduation announcements?
I am graduating from college next Spring. I am also married with four children, and I returned to college later in life. Should I send out graduation invitations/announcements without people thinking that I just want to receive a gift?
A:When I graduated from undergrad I didn't have a party or anything...didn't even go to commencement. For my graduate degree I sent out announcements, "walked" and had a HUGE party and it felt much better...like I had accomplished something, was proud of MYSELF and wanted everyone to celebrate with me. I think you VERY MUCH deserve to do all of this!!! It doesn't matter if you are married with children and went back later in life...if anything that makes you THAT much more in need of acknowledging that you are WONDER WOMAN!!! Definitely...celebrate, celebrate, celebrate!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is about taking ONE day to be proud of yourself and sharing that with your family (and not to mention a HUGE incentive for your children to look up to you for!!). Don't be silly...do it!!!
