By definition, Arabic poetry is poetry written in formal Arabic and follows one of the 16 rhymes (Arabic "???? ?????"). The structure follows an internal or/and external technique. Historians of Arabic literature not only classified Arabic poetry in reference to sequential periods of the nations that had ruled in the Arab regions but also the poets according to their nationality such as: Iraqi poets, Palestinian poets, etc…. In general, researchers and critics of Arabic poetry classify this poetry in two categories: classical and modern poetry. Classical poetry was written before the Arabs' awakening. Thus, all poetry that was written in the classical style is called classical or traditional poetry since it follows the traditional style and structure. It is also known as horizontal poetry in reference to its horizontal parallel structure. Modern poetry, on the other hand, designated from classical poetry in its content, style, structure, rhyme and topics. Stylistically, modern Arabic poetry can be classified in several categories such as: free poetry, modernity poetry, contemporary poetry, trochee poetry and prose. Other classification can be set according to the generation such as: the sixtieth poetry, the seventieth poetry etc. Some of the classification might not mean anything but others reflect controversial point of views between critics and poets' artistic styles and topics.....

100% Q: Can someone give me some tips on how to write good free verse poetry?
I have visited sites and I still can't write free verse poetry. It's not helping me; I know I have to rhyme, but just giving me examples won't help me. Can someone give me some tips on how to write free verse poetry-I'm supposed to be writing about a life story.
A:its a free verse poem meaning it does not have to have any rhyme its free, so you write using your emotions, its a life story, honesty in writing and using simple words would help you get the point write what you really feel and think within thats how you write a free verse, you dont think of the rules ( just the grammar rules of course) write with honesty, and do enjoy it and not think of it as something that need to get done.

100% Q: What exactly is free verse poetry?
I have read Whitman, William Carlos Williams, etc and can't seem to find any sort of traditional rhyme or meter to them, but people have told me this is not free verse. So what exactly is free verse poetry?
A:Verse Libre (Free Verse) in an old term which means non-rhyming iambs in groups 4, 5 or 6 (even more, sometimes). Basically, a Sonnet without rhyme. Today, the term has changed. Free Form means just about anything with a discernible rhythm and artistic expression. Ta Dah!

100% Q: Do you know anyone who actually won money from a free poetry contest?
I'm referring to those contests which require no fee from the poet, but give out a monetary prize for selected entries. Also, is it worth participating in some poetry contests in which you need to pay a small fee to enter? Are any of them legit?
A:You have to determine the goal of the company sponsoring the contest. For example, we run an annual writing contest and charge a reading fee. But our writing contest benefits a different charity each year, therefore the reading fee is simply a means to help offset promotional costs. Some companies engage in the unscrupulous practice of calling everything a contest, when in fact they are just trying to solicit money in reading fees. If a publisher ONLY publishes contest anthologies...be very wary. The larger the alleged prize, the bigger the chance that it is a scam. Poetry is a very small market. Which means it is not normally a money maker for publishers. It is not uncommon for a prestigious award to give out thousands of dollars in prizes, but these awards are normally associated with universities or non-profits that get grant money. But when a so-called publisher is offering $10,000 for a winning poem, you should be suspicious. Entering a poetry contest can be a worthwhile experience, as it does give you some bragging rights if you win. Being able to say "Winner of Blah Blah Writing Contest" helps you build credentials that can open doors later. Always Google any company sponsoring a contest first to see what is available. The lovely thing about writers is that they are happy to warn others about scams. You just have to look.
