college graduation gift etiquette

A:what to give: Being a college student, i can tell you that you can't lose when it comes to money. Send her a $25 visa gift card. She doesn't knwo you that well so it is just her way of acknowledging you guys. Do the same for her but dont Over-do it. when to give it: If you are attending her graduation, you can take it and give it to her there or take it to her graduation party if she's having one. IF you aren't going, send her a letter with a "sorry we can't make it, but we want to help you celebrate" card. Hallmark will have just the thing. Enclose the gift card and send it to her about a week b4 graduation. Hope this helps!!!

A:If the "ritual" of opening the gifts is an expected part of the "entertainment" of the party... i.e. bridal shower, children's birthday party, etc... then the gifts are politely acknowledged at the door (or whenever presented to you), and quietly placed "out of sight" to be opened later. If you are not sure about opening gifts "publicly," then err on the "safe" side and open them privately. Please be sure that, if you do set them aside, that someone marks down (maybe use post-it notes) from whom the gift came. Not everyone gives a gift with some identification as to who the giver was.... and don't rely on your memory... "oh, Aunt Mary and Uncle Joe gave me the gift wrapped in silver paper... no wait... it was white with silver writing... wasn't it? No wait... OMG!!! I don't remember who gave me this gift!!" Why do you think that most bridal couples at a wedding have someone "in charge" of the gifts? Have a great day!

A:Eeek, that was quite rude of the host to expect the party-goers to pay for their dinner. If money was a concern, they should have planned a less-expensive party that they could have funded themselves. But regardless of their error, you should not be rude in return. It isn't "expected" that you bring a gift, according to traditional ettiquette (no gift should ever be "expected"). However, the grad really is expecting a gift, even if he/she shouldn't. And the grad probably isn't the host of the party, so the error in ettiquette isn't his/her fault anyway. So basically, bring a gift. But do take the cost of the dinner into consideration. Give a card with $20 or $25 in it.

A:Congrats! I think the announcement is just fine. You may get some people who are going to say "No gifts, yea right!" and buy you some small token anyway. If you plan on having a dinner to celebrate, then people might be inclined to bring some wine or dessert, but again who knows? If they do, just thank them for the gesture and smile.

A:Absolutely throw them a party if that is OK with them. You will need to find out from them if that is what they want, and if so, who to invite. They will have family and school friends they will want there and maybe work colleagues and neighbors too. If they are married invite the spouse and the kids -if you are planning a kid friendly party. But most grad parties should be kid friendly. People will bring gifts it is perfectly fine and should be appreciated. Since you are the hose the guests might ask you for ideas for gifts so ma bye ask your friend for some ideas to share with the others. Good gifts could include things related to the major or personal interests, picture frames for the Grad Pic, a small crystal or a bookend, etc. Have some good food and stuff and maybe some cameras for people to take pics with and then you develop them for the graduate.
